- Society of Botanical Artists
In 2006 my tutor, Ann Swan, suggested that I should begin to submit my work to The Society of Botanical Artists, their annual Exhibition being held in April at The Methodist Central Hall, Westminster. This was a huge step forward and I was thrilled to have two of the five pictures I submitted accepted and hung in 2007. Even greater was my amazement and delight when one sold! So began my quest to become a full member of the Society. This required five new pictures to be submitted for three consecutive years with all five being accepted each time. I admit to enjoying the challenge and managed to produce enough work of the desired standard to submit for the next three years, each year waiting with baited breath to know if they were in or out! After the second year of all five being accepted, four of which were hung each time, I gained my S.B.A. Associate Membership.
Then, finally, in the third year, all fingers and toes crossed, I heard personally from the then President, Margaret Stevens, who telephoned to welcome me as a Full Member of the S.B.A., as those five pictures had also been accepted. I had achieved my goal and great was my joy! I also received an enormous Certificate to prove it.
I have sold pictures at three out of the four Westminster Exhibitions I have exhibited at so far, much to my amazement and then in Oct. 2010 I submitted two pictures for the S.B.A. Exhibition at Palmengarten in Frankfurt, the theme being 'Autumn' and was thrilled to sell one there too.
I hope to continue to submit my work to the Society's Exhibitions as it is, for me, a necessary incentive to have that goal to aim for.
